“Grain Marketing is Simple (it’s just
not easy)”
Grain Marketing Simplified
Grain marketing can be simple and easy to execute
and still provide profitable results.
Effective farm business management is not about trading
futures and options. Some “experts” would suggest that
trading is necessary but we do not believe grain
marketing is about speculation.
At the core of our price risk management plan is a profit
margin projection. A margin projection simply
identifies when grain prices are profitable or the profit at
a given price. This information is critical to effective
grain marketing. The margin projection provides facts
that can be used to make decisions with less emotion.

The people to talk to if you are "Planning to Grow"
|

Planning
In a recent article entitled “Planning in Good Times,” Dr. David Kohl discusses what banks look for
in a producer. Words that stuck out to us were proactive, discipline and prepared. We think the
article is worth reading and if you are interested please send us a note or call and we will direct
you to the article.
The words in the article are good reminders to all of us that we have to stay focused when things
are good. We need to use the good times to fortify our businesses so we can weather the storms
in the future.
In short, we need to maximize the current opportunities.
Projecting
Our business, Marshall Marketing and Farm Records, works very hard preparing our farm clients
to run their business in good times and bad. We are proactive and constantly looking forward, as
far as the commodity markets will allow, for selling and profit margin opportunities. This means
that we must be disciplined not only with our grain marketing but also with our cost of production
estimates.
Our system provides information that makes disciplined decisions possible and more comfortable.
Positioning
If one of your goals is to improve your grain marketing this year, we can help. If your goal is to
avoid some past mistakes in grain marketing and be more disciplined, we can help. If your goal is
to be more proactive in grain marketing, we can help.
We hope to hear from you. And…take advantage of the opportunities in this market.
Good decisions, not speculation, are necessary for effective grain marketing.
